In the first stage of life

Social, actress. Nicole Camille Escovedo in Berkeley, California, on September 21, 1981, was born. Her biological mother was a backstage assistant to singer and musician Lionel Richie. Her biological father is often referred to as Peter Michael Escovedo, a member of the Lionel Richie troupe and pop percussionist Sheila E.

At the age of three, for financial reasons, Nicole moved in with her father, bandmate Lionel, and Lionel's wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie. Six years later, Richis officially adopted Nicole and she took her father's last name.

Shortly after adoption, Lionel's affair with another woman became fodder for tabloids. With guilt over their well-publicized divorce, Richie's instigated every will of Nicole.

As a child, Richie pursued his passion for figure skating and also practiced guitar, cello, violin, and piano. Nicole's formative years were spent at the prestigious Buckley School in Sherman Oaks, California, where she met Paris Hilton, the heir to the Hilton Empire.

Drug problems

As a teenager, Richie began partying and experimenting with drugs and alcohol. After graduating from Montclair Preparatory School in 2000, she decided to go to college. She studied at the University of Arizona in Tucson and studied arts and media. Nicole dropped out two years later and returned to Los Angeles.

Continuing her teenage years, Richie busted her for heroin in a Mercedes-Benz in February 2003. She pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend the Sierra Tucson Drug Rehabilitation Center in Arizona.

Involved in acting and music

Ten days after leaving rehab, Nicole starred in The Simple Life with her childhood friend Paris Hilton, after Paris' sister Nicky left. Richie continued to work with Hilton, but reconciled in 2006 before starring in the fifth season of their show.

Nicole also continued her music career, joining rock band Darling in 2004, including model Josie Maran and social sisters Soleil and Sofia Alberti. Richie starred as a cheerleader in the 2005 film Kids in America. Richie wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Truth About Diamonds in 2005.

Recent projects

In 2008, Richie launched its own jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960. Her retro-style pieces have been well received by the likes of Madonna and Ashley Simpson. The following year, Richie added costumes to his business empire. She launched Winter Kate in the spring of 2010 and has evolved into a popular high-end fashion line.

Richie, who quickly became an influential force in the fashion world, shared her design insights about the reality competition fashion star in 2012. She, along with Jessica Simpson and John Varvatos, pioneered the team of iring fast designers.

Personal life

Often accused of being too thin, Richie has become a style icon with endless coverage of her shrinking frame and on-the-go relationships. In February 2005, Richie and boyfriend Adam Goldstein, known as club disc-jockey DJ AM, got engaged. They separated ten months later.

Richie was arrested on December 11, 2006, after driving his black Mercedes-Benz Sports Utility vehicle on the freeway in Burbank, California. She told authorities she drank marijuana and took prescription painkiller Vicodin. In July, Richie pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, avoiding a year in prison because it was only the second DUI conviction.

Richie began dating Good Charlotte band guitarist Joel Madden in 2006. On July 31, 2007, Richie announced that he and Madden would have their first child together. She gave birth to daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden on January 11, 2008, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The couple welcomed their second child, Sparrow James, to Midnight Madden on September 9, 2009. In the meantime, Richie got engaged to Madden. The couple tied the knot on December 11, 2010, at Richie's father's estate. Guests included Gwen Stefani and Benji Madden. Richie, once a Hollywood wild child, seems to have settled down and embraced his roles as wife, mother, and entrepreneur.
