Who is LeBron James?
The Los Angeles Lakers’ star player, LeBron James, is an American. In high school, James was hailed as the best basketball player in the country by the media.
When it came to winning the NBA’s most prestigious individual award, it was impossible not to mention Kobe’s four-time MVP status.
Following two championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013, James returned to Cleveland in 2016, when he helped the Cavaliers win their first championship.
Early life and love for basketball
On December 30th, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, a boy named James was born. James had a natural knack for basketball from a young age. In 1999, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School offered him a spot on their basketball squad.
During his four years at the school, James amassed a total of 2,657 points, 892 rebounds, and 523 assists.
USA Today’s First Team All-USA honours were bestowed to James as a high school sophomore. For the first time ever, a sophomore was awarded this honour. For the second year in a row, his team won the Division III state championship.
The Cavalier legend is born
His first season in 2003-04 was a memorable one for James, who became the first Cavalier to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award ever. He was also the youngest player ever to achieve this award, at the age of 20.
The next season, James improved his scoring average to 27.2 points per game while playing professionally in the NBA. For the second time in his career, he created NBA history by becoming the youngest player to score more than 50 points in one game in 2005.
In the first round of the playoffs in 2006, James played a key role in the Cavaliers’ victory against the Washington Wizards. There followed the Eastern Conference semi-final matchup between Cleveland and Detroit.
After he departed in Cleveland for Miami which was one of the most controversial moments in sports history, he won two straight championships after losing the first one against Dallas in 2011.
His career really got boosted after putting up MVP numbers and dominating the league like no other player has ever done. However, the victory was short-lived after he lost to a Spurs rematch series in the Finals for a record-margin win.
Back to Cleveland
LeBron decided to take his talents once more back to Cleveland where he paired with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, two perennial all-stars who each scored more than 20 points per game.
He lost to Golden State during his first year back but quickly recuperated after having one of the best post-seasons of all time. Being down 3-1 in the Finals, he surged his team past the 73-9 Golden State Warriors team and secured the city’s first title in 50 years.
However, when Kevin Durant joined the Warriors, he lost two more Finals series where he eventually moved to Los Angeles and played for the Lakers.
Title with the Lakers
As a Laker, LeBron seemed to be destined to play for the purple and gold. However, his first year was not as successful as people might hope due to his hamstring injury. The following year, the Lakers acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans via trade.
The following year after a disappointing 2018 season, LeBron and Davis both surged the Lakers to the number one seed and won the championship during the pandemic. With this championship, it marked his 4th title in an illustrious 19 years in the NBA.
